kokocherry Farm-Direct Corner
This shop offering a variety of local agricultural and livestock products direct from the producers is located inside kokocherry. Highlights include seasonal fruits from Fruit Kingdom Yamagata, seasonal vegetables, including springtime wild vegetables, summer vegetables, autumn mushrooms, and winter vegetables. This wide variety of agricultural and processed livestock products not only make great souvenirs, but can also add some color to your cooking at home. There are now also two locations for you to enjoy the ever-popular JA Gelato: right next to the JA Gelato Ice Cream Corner, where there’s always a line of people waiting, and Cherry Hall!

The word “chouchou” is French for “favorite”. At this café you can enjoy select coffee and sweets made with Yamagata-grown cherries that you can’t find anywhere else, and as the café’s name implies, we hope to become a favorite destination for our customers. Right by chouchou is Cherryland Sagae’s famous stand-and-eat soba and udon noodle area, where you can eat not only during café time but also when you’re in the mood for a meal. Look up all the attractions Sagae has to offer at the tourist information center next door! Enjoy a quick break with some coffee or soft-serve ice cream.
Enjoy the delicious flavors of Yamagata at a Kawazakura lunch or banquet!
Here you will find a variety of noodle dishes, including ramen and soba, such as the ever-popular Gomoku Ramen and Seaweed & Salt Ramen; rice dishes such as Katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl) and hearty rice topped with starchy sauce, and dishes that feature brand-name Yamagata Beef, including steak rice bowls and curry. You can also enjoy a delicious Kawazakura lunch in a spacious setting overlooking the Sagae River. Banquet meals for organizations and other large groups are available by reservation only. We have large, medium, and small banquet halls available to accommodate groups of any size and any purpose.

Cherryland Sagae, located in Sagae City, Yamagata Prefecture, is one of the largest roadside stations in the Tohoku region. Situated nearly in the center of Yamagata Prefecture and boasting a panoramic view of the Zao mountains to the east and Mt. Gassan and Mt. Hayama to the west, Roadside Station Sagae is one Tohoku’s largest cherry theme parks. The shop kokocherry sells specialty products and crafts from throughout the prefecture. Cherry Children’s Campus CLAAPIN SAGAE is a new space for play and learning. Cherry Kaikan is a popular destination for those who want to enjoy JA’s handmade ice cream made with locally grown fruit and specialty products. Rinsentei is an authentic wooden teahouse that showcases traditional Japanese beauty. There is a plethora of sights to see, including the Turkish Pavilion, built in tribute to Giresun, Turkey, the sister city of Sagae. Riverbank Park also features spaces such as Imoni Plaza, tennis courts, and athletic grounds for you to enjoy. (Advance application required)

A place where children can freely imagine their future: a new space for play and learning
A large facility where children can frolic and play is now available at Cherryland! This facility boasts 2,000 meters of indoor play space with playground equipment and music, which children ranging from infancy to junior high school age can enjoy no matter what the weather is like outside. There is also an outdoor campground, glamping grounds, and even an RV park where visitors can stay overnight in their vehicles.

Handmade gelato, a popular Sagae specialty!
Inside is Japan’s first museum about cherries, which has exhibits detailing the history of cherries grown in Sagae City by our ancestors and other material related to cherry cultivation. There are also papercut works by the late artist Masayuki Miyata and more on display. Another year-round popular item is our exclusive gelato, handmade with local ingredients.

This wooden teahouse is a shining example of traditional Japanese beauty. An authentic teahouse made with natural materials such as cypress from Miyazaki and Kitayama cedar from Kyoto, it also has a large room (8 tatami mats) in addition to its small room (4 tatami mats). This space can be used for tea ceremonies, workshops, meetings, and more. It can also accommodate up to 20 people in a “Ryureiseki” style, a tea ceremony that uses tables and chairs.

Enjoy the culture of Turkey, where the West and East come together
This facility was constructed with an appearance inspired by buildings in the Ottoman Empire. The Turkish Pavilion was built to recognize Sagae’s sister city agreement with Giresun, Turkey, the birthplace of cherries. The basic design of the building is the work of a Turkey-based architect, and all of the marble, tiles, and decorative fixtures were all made in Turkey. The pavilion is packed with genuine Turkish products, including pottery, glassworks, and copper items, and there are also textiles and photographs of Turkey on display. At Giresun Café, the Turkish café on the 1st floor, you can enjoy authentic Turkish-style coffee.
Riverfront park
A multipurpose space 30,000m2 in size along the bank of the Sagae River
This multipurpose park boasts 30,000m2 of space with all-weather tennis courts and tournament-ready gateball fields that can be used for leisurely sports, large events, and other activities in-between. There is also Imoni Plaza, where visitors can enjoy outdoor meals parties where Yamagata’s traditional “Imoni” (stewed potatoes) are served. The multipurpose ball fields can also be used for playing sports such as baseball, softball, and soccer.
